Stratigraphy and regional geology

In our activities stratigraphy is one of the important branch of scientific investigations. They are based both on macro- and micro-paleontological studies which helped to prepare several biostratigraphical schemes of different regions of the Polish Carpathians and Polish lowland. We also participated in elaboration of general Stratigraphical Chart of Poland published in 2008 by the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute with lithostratigraphical scheme of the Carpathian region. Additionally, on the base of our paleontological investigations, which are mainly focused on foraminifers, radiolarians, ammonites, brachiopods, bivalves and crustaceans we try to reconstruct ancient paleoenvironments of several Polish sedimentary basins and their paleobiogeographical distribution, even in world-wide scale. On the other hand, such primary stratigraphical works are fundamental for description of structures of geological regions, both orogenic (like – Carpathians, Holy Cross Mountains, Sudety Mountains) and un-orogenic (Polish Lowland).
